Duterte’s daughter apprehended for speeding in a Subaru

DAVAO CITY, Philippines—Using their newly acquired speed guns, traffic enforcers caught former mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio speeding at 9:40 a.m. Monday, as she drove her Subaru along Quimpo Boulevard in this city.

Supt. Rhodelio Poliquit, chief of the Traffic Management Council (TMC), said the former mayor’s speed reached 57 kilometers per hour, above the 40-kph speed limit in the downtown area of the city.

Apprehending officer Michael Villareal invoked Executive Order 39, issued by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, the former mayor’s father, in October 2013, setting the speed limits of vehicles in the city to protect pedestrians and passengers from reckless and abusive drivers.

Toward the end of the year, some people have already been heard complaining against the slow life in the city but the mayor said this would protect public lives.

According to the City Information Office, the former mayor’s apprehension only proves that in Davao City, no one is above the law.

Poliquit said his office has already forwarded the younger Duterte’s driver’s license to the Land Transportation Office (LTO), which would determine the penalty to be imposed on Duterte-Carpio.
