Showstopper at MIAS: the BYD F5 Suri remote driving control car

BYD Cars, through it Philippine distributor, Solar Transport and Automotive Resources Corp. (Star Corp.), lured huge crowds to its display booth during the recently concluded 10th Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) held on April 3 to 6 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, where they got the chance to see the BYD F5 Suri and its Remote Driving Control technology.

Visitors and prominent personalities like former Senator Miguel Zubiri, Kris Aquino, Carmina Villaroel and Shaina Magdayao witnessed how the F5 Suri’s pocket-sized controller can activate the air conditioner, make the car start, move forward and back, turn left and right, and travel at a restricted speed—all done with the driver standing outside of the car.

Along with its high tech goodies, the F5 Suri is also endowed with both fuel efficiency and performance owing to its TID gold power assembly—1.5TI turbocharged, directed injection, gasoline engine that cranks out 113 kW of power at 5,200 rpm and 240 Nm of torque, and mated to a six-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) that shifts gears in less than 0.2 seconds. The engine consumes fuel at a rate of 15.34km per liter, while the powertrain is capable of propelling the BYD F5 Suri from zero to100 kph in just 8.9 seconds.

Also on display at the BYD booth were L3 and S6, which drew plenty of inquiries.

The L3 is a “C” segment sedan that is available in two variants: The L3 1.5 Liter GS–i, which is equipped with L4 16 Valve, SOHC, fuel injected, gasoline engine (BYD483QA) with DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission); and the BYD L3 1.5 Liter GL –i with L4 16 valve, SOHC, fuel injected, gasoline engine (473QE) mated to a five-speed M/T—both bring to pure driving pleasure because of its smooth shifting without any power loss.

The S6 is BYD’s current flagship model in the Philippines is powered by a 2.0 Liter L4 16-valve (BYD483QB) with MPI Fuel Injection by Bosch with five-speed M/T and two-wheel drive.
The S6 2.0L manual transmission is priced at P928,000. The L3 1.5 automatic is priced at P718,000. The L3 1.5 manual is priced at P598,000 and the F5 Suri 1.5L automatic is priced at P1,018.000.
