DAP is like illegal parking to save a life-PNoy

By Jason K. Ang July 15,2014

Car-loving Philippine president Benigno Aquino III, known as PNoy, yesterday used another automotive analogy in his speech defending the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP). The DAP program saw the executive branch approve projects worth between P174 billion and P177 billion.

Defending the DAP in a televised address for the second time in eight months, Aquino likened his situation to that of a motorist who parked in a “no parking zone” to “save the life of an accident victim.” Aquino said his case was worse because he was cited over space that had not been declared off-limits to parking. “Is that right?” he asked.

Aquino had previously used automotive metaphors. He memorably declared a “no wang-wang” policy, referring to the sirens that allowed supposed VIPs to cut through traffic. He also espouses a “daang matuwid” or straight road to describe his policy of honest government.

The difference is that this particular case of illegal parking was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
