Chevrolet Motorama to showcase year’s hottest, fastest cars

Last year’s Motorama featured a merry mix of the new and the old Chevrolets.

The Camaro has always been a crowd favorite.

MANILA, Philippines–During the unprecedented era of affluence, technological growth and leisure, American industrial giant General Motors launched in 1949 the Motorama, an extravaganza of epic proportions that featured new and upcoming cars, as well as cars that represented the company’s visions of future designs.

It was during these annual automotive spectacles that the world witnessed the debut of GM’s “Dream Cars” that included prototypes of the Chevy Corvette, Bel Air, Biscayne and the Impala.

Lasting until 1961, the Motorama was able to whet the public appetite and boost automobile sales with displays of fancy prototypes, concept vehicles and other special or halo models.

Since 2010, Chevrolet Philippines-The Covenant Car Co. Inc. (TCCCI), exclusive importer and distributor of Chevrolet cars and parts in the Philippines, has been recreating this automotive extravaganza here with unforgettable presentations, amazing automotive displays and hard-to-ignore deals.

Chevy on ice

For this year, the fifth staging of the Chevrolet Motorama happens once again at the Ice Skating Rink of the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City from Oct. 9 to 12.

The 2014 Chevrolet Motorama will be open to the public for free, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 9, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Oct. 10 to 12.

Alberto Arcilla, president and managing director of Chevrolet Philippines, said: “Celebrating another year of innovative design and engineering, this year’s edition of Chevrolet Motorama marks the beginning of a three-month Chevy auto festival participated by our dealerships nationwide.

“Starting tomorrow (Oct. 9), we will once again give our customers the full Chevrolet VIP treatment that will include on-the-spot, easy ownership promos, exclusive freebies, selfie photos with everyone’s favorite Bumblebee at the Chevy photo booth, a showcase of Chevrolet Merchandise collections available at the Chevy Shop, a display of classic Chevy pickup trucks, the latest Chevy vehicle lineup, as well as the entries to the first ever Transform Your Ride: Chevrolet dealer build-off competition,” he said.

The Chevrolet Motorama is in partnership with PBCom, BPI Family Savings Bank and EastWest Bank.

Creativity contest

Arcilla explained the Transform Your Ride: Chevrolet dealer build-off competition recognizes the Filipinos’ passion for innovation and the love for customizing just about anything.

This display from the previous year will be enhanced by the Transform Your Ride: Chevrolet dealer build-off competition.

This first-ever competition involving all Chevy dealerships nationwide is set to impress and gain more Chevy lovers and enthusiasts with various interior, as well as exterior customization and accessorization.

These “modded” Chevy rides will be showcased and paraded during Chevrolet Motorama.

Awards, special trophies, cash prizes and much more await the winners of the competition. Special awards include “People’s Choice Award,” wherein visitors of the event will be given the chance to cast their vote for their favorite entry, the “Best in Engine Bay Modification,” “Best in Paint,” “Best in Body Customs,” “Best in Sound Set-up for Interior and Exterior Improvements,” and with the grand prize, the “Overall Best in Show” award, to be given to the most striking entry.

A ride back in time

The 2014 Chevrolet Motorama will also treat Chevy lovers and visitors to a display of classic Chevy pickup trucks including a 1918 Light Delivery “Cowl Chassis,” which is the very first truck variant that Chevy has ever built; and a 1955 Chevy Pickup, which marked the brand’s advancement in design.

Of course, the display will also include the all-time favorite American muscle car, the Chevrolet Camaro, commonly known as the heroic Bumblebee.

The Chevrolet Motorama will also feature Chevy’s product portfolio including the Spark, the all-around utility vehicle (AUV) Spin, the midsize executive sedan Malibu, the power-packed turbo-diesel pickup truck Colorado and the award-winning and best-selling, midsize-truck chassis SUV, the Trailblazer.

The event will also debut Chevy’s refreshed Captiva and the latest variant of the Sonic LS.

Latest addition

These latest addition to the lineup is expected keep Chevy Philippines a formidable market force. The newly refined as well as redefined 2014 Captiva 4×2 exudes a commanding presence thanks to its sleek, bold lines, masculine corners and its signature dual port grill with the iconic bow tie insignia at its center.

The 2014 Captiva 4×2 is capable of producing a maximum 161 horsepower and 400 Newton-meters of torque that should provide impressive power and acceleration for overtaking maneuvers and climbing steep or challenging roads.

On the other hand, the Sonic, which was one of the hero rally cars featured in the movie “Transformers: Age of Extinction” is equipped with a 1.4-liter Ecotec engine that offers dependable power and reliable engine performance.
