QC Circle to be partially closed Saturday pm

quezon-city-road-closureMotorists driving through Quezon City on Saturday afternoon and night should avoid the Quezon Memorial Circle area, or take note of detours. This is due to to yet another partial closure of a major road for a public event that could have been held without disrupting already choked-up traffic.

The inner lanes of the Quezon Memorial Circle, Commonwealth Avenue and Quezon Avenue will be closed to traffic on November 29, Saturday, from noon to midnight.

This is to give way to the First Night Run sponsored by the Quezon City government, held in celebration of its 75th Jubilee Anniversary.

Thousands of registered professional and amateur runners will see action in the race that will begin at the Quezon Memorial Circle. From there, the 21k category will proceed to Commonwealth Avenue and Quezon Avenue up to Sto. Domingo Church before going back to Quezon Memorial Circle.

“To ensure the runners’ safety, both incoming and outgoing inner lanes in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon Memorial Circle and Quezon Avenue will be closed,” said Jay Em, the event’s race director.

“We have identified U-turns for 3k, 5k, 10k and 21k along Quezon Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue and necessary construction work is needed to be able to have an accurate turnaround point for 10k and 21k route,” Em said.

The full length of the race, the 21k category shall cover the U-turn point in front of the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon Avenue to U-turn point in front of Puregold on Commonwealth Avenue. “U-turn points shall also be put up in between these U-turn points for categories shorter than 21k.”

Organizers said the night run will be held in cooperation with ABS-CBN, ANC, Inquirer.net, Business World, 101.1 Yes FM, 96.3 Easy Rock, 99.5 Play FM, DDBS Advertising, PinoyFitness.com, Toyota, Aquabest, Fisher Mall, STI College, Max’s, Mc Donalds, Nutribar, KFC, Balai Pandesal, Wacoal, Schick, Enervon Activ, Booster C, RUNNR, Toby’s Sports, Brooks, and GU Gel.

It will culminate with a celebration party with Top DJ’s and hosts Papa Jack and Nicole Hyala and segue to the 2nd Christmas Lights and Sound show at the Quezon Memorial Circle.
