World Car of the Year Audi A3 is Anne Curtis’ stylish new ride

ANNE Curtis has had a big 2014—a major concert, an international movie release, a hit local movie, and an iconic title role in a television series. Looks like Anne’s star is showing no signs of fading, if anything, it is growing brighter still as the fearless, dare I say it, “Anne-bitious” It girl continues to break new ground in her career.

All eyes are on her for what she’s going to do next.

Christmas came early for the Audi brand ambassadress when she dropped by for a visit with Audi Philippines head Benedicto Coyiuto at the Audi Global showroom, and drove off with a drop-dead gorgeous Misano Red Audi A3 1.8 TFSI. Apparently, according to “50 Shades of Gray”-fan Anne, this is the same car Christian Grey gives to his ladies because it’s “the safest car,” and this is the same shade of red that the main character in the book, Anastasia, got.

“I’m thrilled to be driving this car,” Anne said, “Not only is this  ‘the safest car,’ it’s also been dubbed the 2014 World Car of the Year!” She added, “So happy it’s red too!”

Like its new owner, the car is a head-turner, not just because it matches Anne’s favorite red lipstick, but this sporty premium compact sedan is a strong presence on the road. Its design is a cross between the classic three-box concept and the coupé philosophy. The “tornado line” design element forms a distinct light-refracting edge that runs over the entire side. The four-door sedan also expresses independent lines in the contour of its hood, in the bumpers, air intakes and its implementation of the single frame grille. At the rear, the spoiler is integrated in the trunk lid and the lights emphasize the car’s horizontal lines with their broad and low cuts.

With its powerful engine, this compact sedan packs quite a punch. “This is a car that changes everything,” Coyuito said at its launch. “The A3 has an efficient turbocharged engine, a luxurious interior, and a beautiful look that all helped it earn the World Car of the Year… the Audi A3 delivers a consummate blend of sporty handling qualities, dynamic acceleration, low emissions while being a miserly consumer of fuel.”
The A3 comes with an engine lineup consisting of the 1.8 TSFI and the 2.0 TDI. Completely redesigned, the engines bring together efficiency technologies from Audi—direct fuel injection, turbocharging, innovative thermal management.

Anne’s car is the A3 with the 1.8 TSFI engine that has dual injection for maximized power and efficiency, one into the combustion chamber and one into the intake manifold. It will give Anne a smooth sporty ride, letting her accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour in 7.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 242 kph (if she wants to). And even with that kind of power, its combined fuel consumption is only at 5.6 liters per 100 km, an excellent quality, especially for Anne whose busy schedule takes her all over the place.

All in all, the A3 makes for a beautiful drive, as recognized by the World Car Award jurors, who said:  “Audi should be complimented for making this A3 ride like no other A3. All the old shimmer over rough surfaces has gone, replaced by a silky smooth ride that approaches limousine quality.” No wonder it is the World Car of the Year.
