Mr. Bean’s McLaren F1 is up for sale

mclaren-f1Rowan Atkinson made millions portraying bumbling, scheming characters like Mr. Bean and Black Adder, and he is also one serious car enthusiast. He is a regular visitor to the Goodwood Revival and even crashed there in a race. He has owned several supercars including an Aston Martin DBS and a Honda NSX. Now, one of his prized possessions is up for sale: his McLaren F1. (Atkinson’s F1 is a dark purple color.) Bought new circa 1997, the actor has been using it quite a bit, reportedly racking up 65,000 km on it, remarkable for such a collectible supercar. Atkinson has been using the F1 as a regular driver, for taking the kids to school and to the supermarket, and reportedly sometimes in character as Mr. Bean.

Atkinson has crashed the McLaren twice. The first was a minor accident, the second a serious crash from which he was lucky to escape without serious injuries. The second accident resulted in a repair bill of $1.3 million, which his insurance company paid. The repair job is apparently worth it, as the car is supposedly being offered for the equivalent of $12 million at London luxury car sellers Taylor & Crawley.
