Actor, director and writer Leonard Nimoy has died at age 83. He will be best remembered for his portrayal of Mr. Spock, the half-human, half-Vulcan science officer of the starship USS Enterprise. As the logical Spock, he was an effective foil for the human characters on the show. He portrayed Spock in three different Star Trek TV Series and eight feature films.

After the first Star Trek series, Nimoy starred in a TV movie called “Baffled!,” intended as a pilot for a new TV series. He placed a race car driver who becomes a psychic. He was then supposed to solve mysteries based on his powers.

He also directed movies, including Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, which brought the Enterprise crew in confrontation with 20th century automobile traffic in San Francisco, and Three Men and a Baby. The Spock persona was his trademark, and he used it to great effect in an ad for Audi. In the ad, he competed against the Spock in the latest film series, Zachary Quinto.

Spock and Nimoy’s motto was “Live Long and Prosper,” words we will always remember him by.
