THE COUNTRY’S most exciting one-make racing series, the Toyota Vios Cup, goes back to Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

Now on its third season, the third leg of the race begins Friday, Sept. 9 for practice, and Sunday, Sept. 10 for the qualifying round with race proper.

Expect the 12 teams represented by 58 to 60 drivers including seven celebrity drivers (Arci Muñoz, Jericho Rosales, Sam YG, Joyce Pring, Phoemela Baranda, Fabio Ide and Jinno Rufino) to battle it out in order to land a place in the three main categories: Super Sporting Class, Sporting Class and Promotional Class.

There’s a separate class for the seven celebrity drivers competing.
The first leg was held at the Clark International Speedway, while the second leg at the converted streets of Filinvest City in Alabang, Muntinlupa.

Advantage

“Probability of rain is very high. Points leaders come back to Clark for the second time this year but must carry high success ballast (additional weight in their cars), giving the non winners this year an advantage,” said race organizer and series director JP Tuason.

Leading from Leg 1 and 2, Jinno Rufino will try to remain on top of the Celebrity Class. Expect Marc Martinez, Bobby Pangilinan, Oscar Suarez, Evelyn Coseteng, Bobby Pangilinan, Jinno Rufino, Marc Martinez, and Aira Medrano to top the Promotional Class.

Meanwhile, contenders for the Sporting Class include Paolo Rodriguez, Miko Maristela, Sean Velasco, Miguel Diaz, Robert Lilles, Steve Bicknell, and JV Ejercito.

Last year’s series champion Andres Calma will try to remain on top of the Super Sporting Class as Allan Uy, Daniel Miranda, Estefano Rivera, Basti Escalante, Dominic Ochoa, and Raymond Ronquillo try to dethrone him.
The 2016 Vios Cup is in partnership with Bridgestone and Rota, supported by Motul, Brembo, Denso, AVT, OMP, tuasonracing.com, and Filinvest Land.

First one-make race in PH

The Vios Cup put Philippine motorsports back on the map when it was first held in 2014.

This first one-make race series is a grassroots racing competition open to motorsport and sports driving enthusiasts, bringing the “waku-doki” (literally feeling the “heart-racing” fun) experience to every Filipino.
Since all the cars are identical, it all boils down to the drivers’ ability.

“The dynamic abilities and fun-to-drive characteristics of the Vios provide a credible platform for motorsport. No wonder, we are discovering so many excellent drivers in this race series,” said Tuason.
