South terminal for provincial buses moving to Pasay City

The temporary terminal for southwest provincial buses bound for Metro Manila will be transferred to a lot owned by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City by next month.

MMDA general manager Tim Orbos made the announcement after saying that the 2013 contract with Uniwide Coastal Mall in Parañaque City—where the terminal is now located—expired in the first quarter of 2016.

The MMDA has been renewing the contract on a monthly basis for a rental fee of P1.12 million, Orbos said.

Metro Manila mayors, convening as the MMDA’s policymaking body last Tuesday, approved the transfer to a lot adjacent to HK Sun Plaza which extends from Macapagal to Roxas Boulevard.

The new temporary Southwest Integrated Provincial Transport System (SWIPTS) terminal will have 17 slots for loading and 11 slots for unloading for the use of provincial buses. City buses, on the other hand, will have six bays for both loading and unloading.

President Duterte is expected to attend the inauguration of the temporary terminal scheduled on April 4, Orbos said.

The SWIPTS was one of three terminals set by the Department of Transportation to restrict the entry into Metro Manila of provincial buses. It serves about 1,000 buses from Cavite and west Batangas.

The MMDA has been tasked to be the lead agency for the temporary terminal.  –Erika Sauler
