This year, the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) goes into high gear as it roars off with its biggest ever exhibition space dedicated to cars, motorbikes and the aftermarket industry. MIAS will be on March 30-April 2 at the World Trade Center and Philippine Trade Training Center, Pasay City. As the Philippine auto industry kicks off with a strong first quarter on its way to potentially its biggest ever year, MIAS matches the mood by highlighting the best new cars and bikes with its theme “Beyond Performance.” Performance is not merely limited to the most horsepower and the quickest 0-100 time, although MIAS will have plenty in those departments too. Performance also means the ability to go in the roughest of city streets and offroad with ease, carrying cargo and passengers with gusto. Here are some of the high-performance vehicles that you can feast your eyes on in MIAS 2017:
Honda will unveil its most anticipated performance model, perhaps ever, with the Civic Type R. The Civic has been recapturing motoring passion with its newfound styling and performance chops. The Civic Type R takes that to a whole new level, with the 2.0-liter turbocharged iVTEC engine pumping out an 309ps and 400Nm.
Hyundai will debut its luxury car designed to take on Europe’s best. The Genesis G90 reportedly combines the imposing styling of a sports sedan with the silence and comfort of a premium limousine. It will also launch the subcompact Creta SUV.
Ford’s SUV and pickup lineup will be put through their paces at a simulated off-road course at MIAS. Get to know the extreme limits of the EcoSport, Everest and Ranger.
Dodge will unlease its Challenger SRT Hellcat at MIAS. The Hellcat features 707 supercharged horsepower coming from its 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine. 0-100kph is the low 3-second range with the 8-speed automatic. Quarter mile time is 11.2 seconds on the Challenger’s street tires, on to a top speed of 320kph.
Speed is also the name of Mazda’s game: in this case, 12.5 seconds to convert from open-top sports car to a secure hardtop, in the MX-5 RF (retractable fastback). The world’s best-selling sports car gets an additional measure of comfort and security with this new feature
Chevrolet Spark has been a great performing car, too—on the sales charts. Spark has sold more than one million units worldwide. Chevrolet will be unveiling the all-new Spark subcompact at MIAS.
Among a fleet of exotics and supercars, Motul will be showcasing a rarely-seen Mustang Shelby GT350R with 526hp, and an 800-Nm Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM Cabriolet at its pure high-performance booth.
At the Subaru booth will be the all-new Impreza sedan. Although the performance version WRX STI is still some months away, the Impreza makes a good case for the new Subaru Global Platform, a new chassis that promises higher levels of safety, ride comfort and handling prowess.
Foton’s Gratour Midi Truck offers carrying capability and efficiency for the entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises.
Also providing a showcase for performance at MIAS will be Russ Swift, the world’s best precision driver delivering heart-stopping stunts behind the wheel of a Subaru. Subaru
