October 04,2017

After months of preparation and a series of activities conducted, Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI) has just recently finally begun the much-anticipated venture of testing the vehicles for this 2017’s version of Car of the Year-Philippines (COTY-P) and Truck of the Year-Philippines (TOTY-P).

With the opening of the Test Fest last September 23 held at their host venue Ayala Land Premier’s Arca South in Taguig City, the whole day activity was carried out together with their partners KPMG RG. Manabat & Co. and Carmudi Philippines.

KPMG RG. Manabat & Co., for their part, played an essential role of creating a system for the testers with the goal of maintaining the integrity of the scores thru an honest, unbiased and organized grading process.

Because of this, CAGI’s members were able to thoroughly evaluate all the ten vehicles from various brands who participated in the first day, which included Chevrolet, Kia, Mazda, Mini, Subaru and Volkswagen.

Each of the vehicles was able to undergo the qualitative testing, which determines the feel, fit and look of the car and the quantitative testing, which pits in the performance mechanics of the vehicle from acceleration, handling to braking.

The Chevrolet Spark and the Trax were in for a field day while the Koreans, the all-new Kia Rio GL and the Picanto GT Line were able to keep up with the arduous tasks at hand.

Japanese contemporaries the Mazda 2 and the MX-5 RF, meantime, showcased their SkyActiv technology as Subaru was able to reveal why the Impreza 2.0i-S was a favorite back in their mother land.

Volkswagen put on display their impeccable German engineering with the Jetta and Golf GTS while Mini proved what their petite One 3-Door was made of.

CAGI President Ronald delos Reyes said that they’re expecting to test about 30-40 cars for this season.

“Since time immemorial, the rating of the vehicles given by the members of CAGI who are considered experts in the industry are designed to provide the consumers the much-needed more informed choices, “he stated.

Also according to him, expect that for this year, a big number of the vehicles to be tested will come from the cross-over market.

Furthermore, he mentioned that with the looming business scene in the industry, more commercial utility vehicles are to be seen in the pool of participating vehicles as well.

The next rounds for the COTY-P and TOTY-P testing will be this September 30 and October 28. While the testing dates for the inaugural Motorcycle of the Year Philippines will be held on October 14 and 21.
