Porsche Asia Pacific has adorned the car with the iconic livery of Porsche Motorsport as a homage to the car’s sporting roots.

Porsche Asia Pacific recently organized a regional media drive for journalists in Singapore along with this writer to test drive the new Macan Turbo with Performance Package, the flagship variant of the brand popular compact SUV. For the first time ever, Porsche Asia Pacific has adorned the car with the iconic livery of Porsche Motorsport, used in Porsche’s race cars, as a homage to the car’s sporting roots and position as the sports car of SUVs.

Porsche used the theme “greater than the sum of its parts” for this very unique driving event using the Macan Turbo with Performance Package that allowed participants during the regional media drive to experience an intense and sporty experience, beyond just the individual technical upgrades. What’s interesting about this drive was, only two participants were doing the test drive at any given time. A preset route was programmed into the car’s GPS navigation system where the participants may or may not choose to follow. There were several stops along the way, and the journey is composed of several types of traffic situations and driving conditions so the participants get to maximize the “Porsche driving experience”.

Martin Limpert, Managing Director of Porsche Asia Pacific, said: “Like every Porsche, the Macan carries the genes of a real sports car, being born on the racetrack. Especially with the Performance Package, it is truly a car that pushes limits even further and gives a breathtaking drive whether in the city or countryside. The livery serves to emphasis this further. One will quickly realize that the Macan Turbo with Performance Package is truly greater than the sum of its parts, and I am proud of what we have achieved.”

In Sport Plus mode, the exhaust system is tuned to enhance an even better sound and sportier performance.

What is interesting about the livery set up is that the test car is a one-off initiative of Porsche Asia Pacific for branding purposes and is unique to this specific press car. Therefore, the graphics will not be available for order for customer cars.

The Macan Turbo with the Performance Package is now its top-line variant with even greater agility, enhanced driving properties, and an even greater emotional appeal. This variant still uses the same twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine but delivers 40 more horsepower than the standard Macan Turbo variant. With 440 hp, the Performance Package variant can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, faster by 0.4 seconds, and has a top speed of 272 km/h with an increase of 6 km/h. The maximum torque has also been bumped up by 50 Nm to a total of 600 Nm, that is available across a broad rev range of between 1,500 and 4,500 rpm.

With the new variant, there is also an increase in the tractive force, with the Sport Plus mode, the time taken to accelerate from 80 km/h to 120 km/h has dropped significantly by 0.2 seconds. Depending on the type of tires and prevailing driving conditions, fuel consumption is between 9.4 liters/100 km and 9.7 liters/100 km.

Aside from boosting engine power and torque, the Macan Turbo Performance Package has a newly developed brake system, lowered body, controlled sports chassis, Sport Chrono Package and sports exhaust system that are all fitted as standard. The front axle features grooved brake discs with a diameter of 390mm and is 30mm larger than the brake discs fitted on the standard Macan Turbo and uses six-piston brake calipers.

The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) allows the car to adjust to varying road conditions and is operated inside the cabin at the push of a button. It is a system that responds to changing road conditions and/or driving style by continuously varying the individual damping forces within the parameters defined depending on the chosen mode. Pitch and roll are reduced, while the contact of each wheel with the road is optimized. The setting can be made for comfort or to optimal sporty position on the road. This system has also been optimally tuned to the body on the vehicle, which has been lowered by 15mm. Its air suspension with self-leveling function and height adjustment, lowered by ten mm, is also available as an option.

With the Sport Chrono Package, drivers can ramp up the performance of the Macan Turbo even further. In Sport Plus mode, this package ensures the chassis, engine and transmission are tuned to enhance an even better and sportier performance that is accompanied by an even more emotional sound from the sports exhaust system. Thanks to its seven-speed PDK double-clutch transmission, the Macan Turbo can deliver extremely short response times, optimum switching points and increased torque during gear changes for maximum acceleration.
