Ford PH launches new Mustang fastback and convertible at MIAS

Ford Philippines officially unveiled the new Mustang at the 14^th Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), available in four exciting variants, including the sporty Mustang convertible for the first time in the Philippines. Here’s the news from Ford:

The new Mustang offers an aggressive new design, powerful performance, and innovative changes in transmission, braking, and sports exhaust technologies, and arrives with more customizable options than ever, making each and every Mustang truly distinct.

“The Mustang is full of history and heritage, and its updated design, performance enhancements, and new innovative features will give Mustang fans something to really get excited about,” said Rodel Gallega, vice president, Marketing and Sales, Ford Philippines.

The new Ford Mustang comes in four variants: the 2.3L EcoBoost 10-speed AT fastback, 5.0L V8 GT 10-speed AT fastback, 5.0L V8 GT 10-speed AT convertible, and 5.0L V8 GT 6-speed MT convertible.

Powerful performance

The 5.0L V8 engine is extensively redesigned and accompanied by an all-new port fuel and direct injection (PFDI) fuel delivery system, packing 460 horsepower with 420 lb-ft torque.

The proven 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine continues to offer outstanding performance, and improves to 310 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque.

For the first time in the Philippines, Ford is introducing a new 6-speed manual transmission exclusive to the 5.0L V8 GT Premium convertible that gives users full control in shifting gears.

A new 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, available with both EcoBoost and V8 engines, is the best automatic Mustang has ever offered. With a wide-ratio span and optimized gear spacing, this all-new gearbox helps deliver higher average power for acceleration – improving responsiveness and performance.

Should you want to take this shifting into your own hands, the SelectShift® system instantly enables clutch-less driver-controlled shifting with the steering wheel paddle shifters.

A direct transfer of technology from the Shelby GT350, the new Mustang 5.0L V8 GT is fitted with the new Magneride Damping System. Through electronically-controlled shock absorbers and cutting-edge electromagnetic based damper technology, this system enables a nearly instantaneous adjustment of suspension performance every 7 milliseconds, resulting in a smooth ride quality, impeccable handling, and very flat cornering on highway or track environments.

Completing the experience of the Mustang 5.0L V8 GT performance is the new Active Valve Performance Exhaust, Ford’s most satisfying addition to their sports exhausts to date, which emits a more aggressive sound resonating with a deep rumble. This system allows drivers to select between four exhaust modes – Quiet, Normal, Sport, and Track, which are backed by electronically-controlled butterfly valves that open for performance and volume, and close during quiet cruising. For a more discreet start up, the Mustang’s Quiet Start option can be selected to minimize exhaust rumble during designated times.

Aggressive new design

The new Ford Mustang conveys a sharp, yet aggressive new design that stays true to its long-standing heritage. New on the hood are functional air extractor hood vents and lowered hood line, resulting in a sleek, fluid look.

It comes with new LED fog lamps and LED headlamps with signature lighting complementing the redesigned LED tri-bar taillamps.

Below, the Mustang has an aerodynamic rear diffuser, acting as wake modifier, and on the front, is a lower splitter, accentuating the performance personality. The 2.3L EcoBoost variant is equipped with a dual bright exhaust with rolled tips, while the 5.0L V8 GT variants get a quad tip dual exhaust.

On the inside of the new Mustang is an updated interior, featuring a seamless blend of refined materials, producing a dynamic, and performance felt environment. Standard across all models are laminated acoustic windshields, steering wheel-mounted cruise, audio and 5 way controls and a 12- inch fully customizable LCD display cluster that allows the driver to select and save certain settings including active exhaust, steering mode and drive mode with just pressing the Pony button.

Innovative Technology

The new Mustang operates around innovative technologies that enable smarter, yet satisfying drives. All variants of the new Mustang come equipped with driver-assist technologies, including the following:

• Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with cross-traffic alert that can alert drivers to vehicles detected in your blindspot
• Lane Keeping Assist that enables you to stay where you need to be, warning you through a series of steering wheel vibrations when you’re drifting over
• Backing up is easier with the Rear View Camera that automatically shows you what’s behind your vehicle on a display screen.
• Adaptive Cruise Control that allows drivers to select speed and distance you want to maintain from the vehicle in front of you.

To get the most out of the driving experience that the Mustang provides, Ford’s inclusion of TrackApps, its suite of applications, enables drivers to observe, review, or fine-tune their performance on the track. Here, drivers can select from a variety of performance features such Accelerometer, G forces, Acceleration Timer, Automatic countdown, Brake Performance, Lap timer, and Launch control and Line-lock for MT variants only.

A Mustang for Everyone

Customers can choose among these exclusive colors for the 5.0L V8 GT variants: Orange Fury Metallic (new), Kona Blue (new), and Triple Yellow Tri-Coat. Four additional colors, Shadow Black, Race Red, Magnetic Metallic, and Oxford White are available for all Mustang variants.
