Take that, axis of evil! Toyota stops car sales to Iran

August 26,2010

According to reports, Toyota Motors will stop shipments of its cars to Iran, in support of an international trade embargo. The embargo stems from a United Nations Security Council package of sanctions that is supposed to pressure Iran to stop its nuclear program. Toyota exports to Iran are not significant, officially just 222 vehicles from January to May 2010, and a similar number in all of 2009. Most of those vehicles are the much coveted Land Cruiser, so this seems to be a “this will hurt you more than it hurts us” situation for Toyota.
