If owning an Aston Martin Vantage seems too pedestrian, the British carmaker has something that may pique your interest: the new V12 Zagato. It’s a rebodied version of the V12 Vantage, and what a rebody it is. The handbuilt aluminum and carbon fiber body cranks up the exotic dial to 11. The car was unveiled at the Villa D’ Este Concours on the shores of Lake Como in Italy, where it picked up an award for its design.
The Zagato is no poseur, either. In prototype form, the car was first built as a pair of race cars that took part in the Nurburgring 24-hour race. This follows Aston’s recent practice of introducing new cars by entering a near-production version in a road race.
The car’s aluminum and carbon-fiber body is produced using handbuilt techniques, as the car’s design is apparently not possible to produce using pre-formed panels. The aluminum panels are formed using tools such as an English wheel and body bucks. The double bubble roof is created from five separate pieces, in a sample of the no-expense spared construction.
Aston Martin’s Chief Executive Dr. Ulrich Bez calls the V12 Zagato “a fabulous celebration of the iconic DB4GT Zagato, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.” Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s Director of Design said: “The V12 Zagato is an elegant yet brutal design which reflects the great balance between race performance and pure Aston Martin style.”
The V12 Zagato is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 with 510 bhp and 570 Nm on tap. The car will be priced at £330,000 GBP before taxes (around P22,525,000). Expect production numbers to be very limited.
