Another month, another tease from Subaru. Aside from the long-awaited rear-wheel drive sports car co-developed with Toyota, the constellation brand has been showing off its new crossover in concept form. Now, even less of a teaser, with a mere drawing, ahead of its debut in Frankfurt in September.
From the Shanghai reveal (the green car in the photos), we know that the car will be compact, measuring 4450mm in length, 1800mm width and 1620mm height, on a 2635mm wheelbase. This slots it distinctly below the current Forester, but still larger than rival Mitsubishi ASX. The smaller size may endear it to single folks and empty nesters alike.
In styling, it follows the upcoming Impreza, which looks less BMW and more 1990s Pontiac. Engine is the familiar 2.0-liter flat floor, mated to a CVT.
Here are a few more sketchy details from Subaru:
Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), parent company of Subaru Automobiles, today confirmed the world production premiere of the all new Subaru XV (European specification) at the 64th Frankfurt Motor Show, September 13 – 25, 2011.
Subaru’s new crossover will be unveiled to the world media at a press conference scheduled for 09.30am on September 13.
The Subaru XV defines a whole new generation of Subaru crossover vehicle. The Concept version of the XV received a warm welcome when it was first shown at the Auto Shanghai motor show in April, its design successfully combining the latest distinctive Subaru elements with the commanding silhouette expected of a crossover.
The final production version of the XV remains true to the Concept and Subaru is confident that it will bring something fresh, as well as a new level of engineering excellence, to the segment.
Subaru also expects the XV will bring a new type of customer to the Brand, people who are confident in the knowledge of the company’s AWD and engineering expertise and who are also looking for the flexibility and lifestyle statement that owning a crossover brings.
