September 08,2011

No news is usually good news, but in this case news is just less bad. Honda is clarifying that its recall will affect 14,883 units of 2005-07 Honda Jazz, 2006-08 City and 2005-06 CR-V, instead of the 19,143 units first announced. The first photo shows an example of power window included in the recall; the second shows one NOT included in the recall.

Last September 05, 2011, with customers’ safety as utmost priority, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) announced the voluntary recall of 19,143 units of combined Yr. ’05-’07 Honda Jazz, Yr. ’06-’08 City and Yr. ’05-’06 CR-V models to replace the power window master switch assembly with countermeasure parts.

The silicon component commonly found in air fresheners or automotive cleaning agents, etc. enters into the power window master switch. This accelerates wear in the contact area and over time, wear particles accumulate between the power source and ground of the unit switch. The resin material of the unit switch is then heated and carbonized. This may cause smoke and in worst case, partial burning of the window switch cover. To date, no accidents or injuries have been reported related to this defect in the Philippines

After careful study, HCPI would like to inform its customers that the number of affected vehicles is reduced to 14,883 units. The other 4,260 units not included in the recall have a different design of power window master switch which was supplied by other parts supplier. For easier reference, City units with central door lock function are NOT included in the recall.

In an effort to keep its customers informed without delay, HCPI issued a statement immediately after the official announcement from its head office, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. “In behalf of HCPI, I would like to sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that this incident may have caused the owners of mistakenly identified units.” said Mr. Voltaire Gonzales, Vehicle Sales and Corporate Communications Head of HCPI. For the complete and updated listing of Jazz, City and CR-V units included in the voluntary recall, kindly refer to attached table.
