The sporty Ford Fiesta is about to get sportier, as the ST version was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in concept guise. The car follows the styling cues of its most recent World Rally Championship and Rallycross racers, made famous by the likes of Ken Block. Ford Philippines is also reportedly working on racing versions of the Fiesta hatchback.
Fiesta ST uses a large trapezoidal grille with honeycomb mesh, rear diffuser and twin exhaust. It is finished in Molten Orange, pinched from the SVT F-150 Raptor pickup. The car is lowered, and fitted with 17-inch alloys. Inside are heavily-bolstered Recaro front seats.
The ST uses the 1.6-liter version of Ford’s EcoBoost series of inline-fours. The dohc engine with variable camshaft timing develops 178 bhp and 240 Nm, enough for a sub-seven seconds 0-100 km/h time. Top speed is in excess of 220 km/h. Despite that, Ford emphasizes that its CO2 emissions will be lower than 140g/km. With a six-speed manual, its fuel economy should also be exemplary.
