Toyota Motor Philippines launches all-new Avanza

January 13,2012

Toyota Motor Philippines unveiled an all-new Avanza MPV, with more modern styling, upgraded interior, and available ABS and dual airbags. After the Revo was discontinued in 2005, the Toyota MPV line was split into the larger Innova and B-segment Avanza, co-developed with Daihatsu.

The exterior looks decidely more modern, with a arrow-shaped headlamps, sloped D-pillar, and–would you believe it–flared fenders.

The interior has been restyled to more closely resemble Toyota’s passenger car offerings like the Vios and Corolla. Toyota says that the cabin is wider and offers more legroom. The steering wheel now tilts, a welcome improvement over the previous fixed column. The steering wheel gets remote audio controls.

Avanza continues with the 1.3 and 1.5-liter engine choices of the previous model. The 1.3-liter VVTi engine delivers 90bhp and 117Nm, while the 1.5 is capable of 102bhp and 136Nm. Five-speed manual and four-speed automatic are the transmission choices. Toyota claims a fuel efficiency of up to 12 km/liter, thanks to the reduced curb weight.

The 1.3J very-entry-level model, ideal for fleet and taxicab use, makes do without ABS, airbags, remote entry, power door locks and mirrors, foglamps, rear wiper, mudguard, rear defogger, or rear spoiler. Seating is good for five. Price is set at P620,000.

The 1.3E adds rear wiper, painted mirror, driver airbag, mudguards, upgraded audio system from two to four speakers and with USB head unit. The manual goes for P703,000 while the automatic goes for P743,000. All E variants and higher are seven-seaters.

Avanza 1.5G adds power door locks, retractable mirrors, ABS, dual airbags, remote entry, security system, upgraded audio, rear spoiler, chrome grille, and upgraded trim on the instrument panel. Price is P828,000 for the manual and P868,000.

Color choices are: Silver Metallic, Dark Steel Mica, Champagne Metallic, Light Blue Metallic, Gray Metallic and White.

Toyota has sold more than 29,000 units of Avanza in the Philippines since its debut, making it one of its top-selling models.
