Manila International Auto Show revs up, opens on March 29

March 27,2012

The Manila International Auto Show will open its doors on March 29 to April 1, 2012 at the World Trade Center for its 8th edition. Since 2005, Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) has already opened its doors about half a million visitors who trek to this annual automotive pilgrimage. MIAS had only one vision – to put up a world-class exhibition venue for the Philippine automotive industry. Its maiden effort in 2005 featured 15 auto brands with a total exhibition floor area of just a little over 6,000 square meters, and it has since grown to over 26,000 square meters of indoor and outdoor exhibit space, over 400 car exhibits and over 30 automotive and motorcycle brands, creating an unparalleled excitement only an international grade auto show can provide.

This year, aside from the World Trade exhibition hall and lobby of 10,000m2 and the 3,000m2 East Wing annex building and some 6,000m2 of outdoor exhibit and stunt performance area, MIAS has added some 4,000m2 of exhibition floor space at the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC) building and has added another 3,000m2 of additional covered area using a prefabricated aircon tent building. The combined outdoor and indoor exhibition floor area of 26,000 m2 continues to make MIAS the country’s biggest annual motoring event.

Guinness World Record holder in precision driving Russ Swift returns with another thrilling show with his trusty Subaru Impreza sedan. Russ Swift returns to Manila with the same vigor as he performed in a sell-out crowd three times daily for the whole duration of the show. He will also be here to launch Subaru’s new XV crossover SUV vehicle together with Motor Image Singapore CEO Glenn Tan, Asia ’s distributor for Subaru cars.

BPI Auto Loans and Petron signs up for MIAS 2012
BPI Family Auto Loans is once again the official presentor of the MIAS 2011. Last year, BPI celebrated its 160 years of banking excellence. Known for its “Auto Madness” campaigns, special financial packages await its car buyers with easy financing plans with its various financing options. Petron, the country’s leading fuel brand is the main presentor for the Petron-MIAS Custom Classic Car Competition. Some 100 custom, vintage and classic cars will compete for top honors as they prep their cars for the most coveted Petron-MCCC “best of show” award.

Life in the Fast Lane
This year’s theme, Life in the Fast Lane, is a very appropriate theme as for the first time, AAP, one of Asia’s oldest automotive associations will honor the country’s top drivers in a formal gala evening affair to be held on its second evening (see complete story on this section). Celebrity and actor Jomari Yllana will also launch his own racing team dubbed as the Yllana Racing Team with his highly customized Hyundai Genesis drift race car. Tuason Racing School will also conduct seminars on racing techniques and road safety while Autoplus, the country’s premiere tuner shop and distributor for Motul products will showcase the “Philippines’ fastest car” – a highly customized Ford GT supercar and a Nissan GTR, both cars broke the 200MPH barrier at a recent speed festival event held in Subic Bay Airport. Mercedes-Benz luxury tuner brand Carlsson, will also showcase two highly customized Mercedes-Benzes, complete with engine modifications and bodyworks. Lastly, BMW is expected to have a good line up of its venerable “M” motorsport models.
