Subaru launches XV compact SUV

April 19,2012

Motor Image Pilipinas has launched the Subaru XV compact SUV, a five-seater raised wagon that slots in just below the Forester in size. In features and pricing, the two are neatly overlapping. XV features Subaru’s core technologies: an all-new boxer engine and symmetrical all-wheel drive system.

The 2.0 liter normally aspirated engine delivers 148bhp and channels it through a CVT. The CVT is said to be key to the XV’s notable fuel economy, quoted by some early customers at 9-plus km/liter in city driving, despite having to run an all-wheel drive system.

The XV, based off the new Impreza, looks surprisingly attractive in the metal, with its funky 17-inch black-center wheels, angular headlamps, and curved roof. The only thing lacking is Subaru’s previous frameless windows (which won’t be making a comeback ever). Subaru likens the XV’s style to that of a running shoe—a “fusion of casual and function, with a dash of fashion.”

Subaru says that the XV, despite the compact exterior, packs one of the roomiest cabins in its class, with ample cargo space. The interior features available six-speaker audio with auxiliary and USB inputs, backup camera, 4-inch multi-function display, sunroof, dual climate control, and trip computer.

The XV’s safety features include four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, stability control, and six airbags.

The base XV 2.0i is priced at P1,288,000 while the top-line Premium retails for P1,398,000.
