Toyota Philippines launches all-new RAV4

January 29,2013

Toyota Motor Philippines has launched the all-new RAV4 compact crossover, just weeks after its world debut at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. It was about time, too, as the RAV4, one of the original compact crossovers, has seen a gaggle of competitors lately from all sorts of brands. The crossover features a new engine, the 2.5-liter inline-four from the base Camry. With dual VVTi variable valve timing, the engine outputs 177bhp and 233Nm. The engine mates to a six-speed automatic (finally). 4×2 and 4×4 options will be available, with the 4×2 base variant at P1,357,000; the 4×2 full option at P1,581,000 and the 4×4 at a whopping P1,963,000. White pearl paint will cost an additional P15,000.

The RAV4 carries the new Toyota family look, as seen on the Camry and facelifted Corolla Altis. In a departure for the RAV, the new car features a liftgate rear door instead of a side-hinged door. The spare tire has migrated to the trunk floor. Wheels are 17-inch alloys. Front suspension is by MacPherson strut while the rear suspension uses double wishbones.

The interior features five seats done in fabric for the 4×2 and leather for the 4×4. The rear seat split-folds for greater cargo room. Electro luminescent gauges are standard, but interior appointments vary on the model. The base 4×2 makes do with a urethane steering wheel and vinyl shift lever and parking brake lever, while upper variants get leather trim. Likewise the base model only gets dual airbags and lacks a tonneau cover for the trunk. Cruise control, keyless go and climate control are features only of the 4×2 full option and 4×4. RAV features a 6-inch audio display with iPod/USB/Aux integration, as well as Bluetooth connectivity.
