Nissan partners with Habitat for Humanity to rebuild homes

April 24,2013

Here’s news from Nissan: Over the last weekend, employees of Nissan Motor Philippines, Inc. (NMPI) joined forces with representatives of Habitat for Humanity Philippines and Universal Motors Corporation to distribute shelter repair kits to disaster-stricken communities in Brgy. Gatid, Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

The activity was to kick off the global partnership of Nissan Habitat for Humanity in the Philippines. The joint endeavor between Nissan and Habitat for Humanity dates back to 2005, but it has only been recently that this engagement was expanded to other markets including the Philippines. In total, Nissan Motor Company Ltd. has donated US$1million to launch joint projects in India, Indonesia and the Philippines.

In the Philippines, Nissan’s involvement includes the donation of one unit of our compact SUV, the X-TRAIL CVT, and in partnership with UMC, the engagement in “Ayos Bahay Challenge,” wherein around 300 emergency shelter kits will be provided for use in disasters and emergency preparedness training for the families located in disaster-stricken areas.

“We are proud to support Habitat for Humanity in its efforts to make build homes, communities and hopes,” NMPI VP for Marketing, Sales & After-Sales Lee Junia said. “This partnership reinforces our global vision to improve the quality of life in the communities in which Nissan operates and provides an opportunity for our employees to make a difference in the very neighborhoods where they work.”

Lee adds that it is but natural for Nissan and Habitat for Humanity to forge a partnership, since both corporations complement Nissan’s vision of ‘Enriching People’s Lives,’ a cornerstone of the Blue Citizenship approach to creating a sustainable society.

“For NMPI, this commitment has been ingrained to us for the past 30 years – just recently, we marked our third decade of operations in the Philippines. In shifting the way Filipinos move, we have gone a long way since the establishment of our first plant in Quezon City in 1982, until today, with our state-of-the-art Nissan Technopark in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.”

The recent event was just one step towards building homes, communities and hope. Together with Habitat for Humanity Nissan Motor Philippines, Inc. and Universal Motors Corporation are pledging to its customers, employees, shareholders and the communities where they do business to deliver engaging, valuable and sustainable mobility for all.
