Jaguar Cars Philippines launched the fastest production Jaguar ever made, the 300km/h XKR-S coupe. The XKR-S is based on the supercharged XK-R, boosting its horsepower by 40hp to 550ps and 680Nm of torque. That’s enough to propel the XKR-S from 0-100km/h in just over 4.2 seconds, on to a top speed of 300km/h. It’s the first Jaguar to be a member of the 300km/h supercar club. The rest of the car gets multiple upgrades, from the rear spoiler that cuts lift, to upgraded brakes. Springs are stiffened and the wheels are standard 20″. Typical of a Jaguar road car, the XKR-S does so with style and luxury, with the fortunate driver/owner ending up with a comfortable GT that is capable of blistering performance. The list price is estimated at P12.8 million, around P1.4 more than the regular XKR, and a very worthwhile upgrade.
Here’s more from Jaguar:
For the first time with a production sports car, Jaguar has gained entry into the exclusive ‘300 km/h club’ with the XKR-S, thanks to its uprated 550ps supercharged third generation V8 engine. Developed at the Jaguar Test and Engineering Centre at Nürburgring, the XKR-S can go from 0-96 km/h in 4.2 seconds and delivers a maximum torque of 680Nm.
Jaguar Cars Philippines recently launched the Jaguar XKR-S amid speed enthusiasts and media friends. “We are very proud to introduce the Jaguar XKR-S which elevates the entire XK range to a whole new level with its extreme performance. The XKR-S is the most responsive, agile, and driver-focused car that Jaguar has ever built,” said Jaguar Cars Philippines chairman and president Wellington Soong.
Jaguar pioneered the use of aluminum in its series production cars and the metal has lent its low mass and high tensile strength to make the lightweight aluminium chassis of the XKR-S strong and rigid, giving it a wide range of abilities. The equally lightweight 20-inch alloy wheels of the XKR-S were designed to optimize body control, traction, and grip.
Styled with a multi-awarded aerodynamic design based on geometry and physics, the Jaguar XKR-S has become the highest expression of Jaguar’s passion for building beautiful fast cars. Exclusive to the XKR-S are carbon-leather trimmed versions of Jaguar Performance seats with integrated headrests, racing harness cut-outs, and increased side and squab support to hold driver and passenger securely during high speed cornering.
Aside from delivering powerful performance, the XKR-S is also environmentally-friendly as it is the only car in its category to emit less than 300 g of carbon dioxide per kilometer.
Jaguar also announced that Audel Sison is the over-all champion of the First Jaguar Drift Fest together with the novice champion, Jesus Romero-Salas that was held recently at Kings Playground, Food Terminal Inc. (FTI) in Taguig. The First Jaguar Drift Fest featured a special Jaguar XKR drifting demonstration by drift expert Ian King.
Drifting has been observed in rally races as early as the 1950s and first came to popularity 30 years ago in the mountain roads of Japan. It involves oversteering a car so it will lose rear wheel traction and slide or “drift”. In competitions, drivers are judged based on the line a car takes against an established line set by the judges, the angle and speed the car takes when drifting, and overall show factor, which includes the amount of smoke the tires burn and audience impact.
