The B-segment SUV/crossover remains one of the unexplored markets in the Philippines, with few entrants like the Suzuki Jimny. That’s not for lack of potential entries like the Ford EcoSport and Toyota Rush/Daihatsu Terios—and now another new car has been launched that could open up the segment.
It’s the Peugeot 2008, based off the 208 hatchback. Like the other cars in the x008 series, the 2008 aims to combine the driving dynamics of a hatchback with the space and cargo capability of an SUV. Unlike the 3008 and 5008, which look like MPVs, the 2008 is styled more like an SUV, and that may be its biggest selling point. Borrowing some styling cues from the RCZ sports car, the 2008 will be one of the sexiest crossovers ever seen. Three-cylinder diesel engines will also make it frugal and environmentally friendly.
Peugeot sees the car as a potential bestseller in Asia and Latin America. It will be produced in France, China, and Brazil.
