Hyundai’s new Accent is one of the more attractive cars in the B-segment, its styling essentially a shrunken-down version of the Elantra’s. One thing sorely missing from the lineup was a diesel engine, as the gasoline version wasn’t exactly setting fuel-economy records. A hatchback version, to compete with the likes of the Jazz and Fiesta, was also badly needed. Now Hyundai Asia Resources is setting both right at a single stroke. They have released the Accent Hatch CRDi.
The Accent Hatch is powered by a diesel; it’s the only one in the B segment to use diesel power. The engine generates the expected abundance of torque: 260Nm at 1900-2750 rpm, and, surprisingly, also the most power as well: 127 bhp at 4000 rpm. The engine is equipped with variable geometry turbocharger and mates to either a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic.
The suspension uses MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam axle at the rear. Four-wheel disc brakes with ABS provide the stopping power.
Pricing is attractive, at P768,000 for the six-speed manual version. This will be something of a tuner special, with 14” steel rims as standard. Driver airbag, steering wheel audio control and power side mirrors are on board.
The AT version is much dearer at P868,000. Equipment though is also more generous, as it comes with 16” alloys, fog lamps, dual airbags, leather steering wheel with audio control, and power side mirrors.
Exterior color choices are: Clean Blue, Carbon Gray, Veloster Red, Sleek Silver and Crystal White.
