Peugeot may have hybrids on its mind, but it hasn’t forgotten the racier side of concept cars. On the stands at the upcoming Frankfurt auto show will be the 308 R Concept.
The base car is the 308 hatchback. Slotted into the engine bay is the engine of the RCZ R, a 1.6-liter four-cylinder that pumps out 270hp, for a specific power of nearly 170hp/liter. Torque is 330Nm from 1900 rpm. Engine parts are heat-treated and reinforced for durability. Drive is to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox and limited-slip differential.
The car is lower and wider than its stock counterpart. The concept vehicle features a red paint scheme with fluorescent base. Towards the rear the color shifts to a textured blue-black. Integrated bodywork is fabricated from carbon fiber: the doors, front wings, body sides and sills, hood and bumpers are made from the lightweight material. Only the roof and tailgate are from the original 308. Full LED headlamps are also from the stock hatchback. 19″ wheels enclosing 380mm disc brakes front and 330 mm rear, fill out the wells.
The cockpit features clear and simple controls including a raised instrument panel, meant to be viewed over the steering wheel, and a 9.7-inch touch screen.
