After some Thai martial arts power, it’s time for a little Stuntman Mike driving skill. Action star Kurt Russell is in talks to join the Fast & Furious franchise, according to Variety. The casting move would be a solid addition of an A-list actor to an ensemble that includes Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Dwayne Johnson.
The deal would reportedly have Russell join the next two ‘Fast & Furious’ movies. Russel’s last major movie role was, appropriately, in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Deathproof,’ as homicidal driver Stuntman Mike. This adds to an impressive canon of action films such as ‘Escape from New York,’ ‘The Thing,’ ‘Tombstone’, ‘Tango & Cash,’ and ‘Big Trouble in Little China.’ Russell’s role was originally pegged for Denzel Washington.
Universal is bringing out its heavy guns on this franchise, and deservedly so, as Fast 6 is its biggest grossing movie to date, with more than $750 million in worldwide box office receipts. Another star attached the upcoming sequel is UFC star Ronda Rousey, to match kicks with Gina Carano.
Fast & Furious 7 will reportedly return the series to Los Angeles, after five sequels set in other locales. Here’s hoping that Fast 7 will have a white Dodge Challenger with Russel’s name on it.
