Daniel Ricciardo bags the second Red Bull seat

With the departure of Mark Webber at the end of the season, Red Bull Racing (RBR) has been tight lipped in discussing their possible driver pairing for next year. A few names have been thrown in the ring: Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen being the notable ones. But, quite logically, RBR has decided to tap their “B” team to fill in the vacancy.

In an interview, Christian Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull has finally confirmed what many were expecting: that Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso will be called up to replace Webber. “It’s fantastic to confirm Daniel as the team’s race driver for 2014. He’s a very talented youngster, he’s committed, he’s got a great attitude and in the end it was a very logical choice for us to choose Daniel. He joined the Red Bull Junior Team in 2008 and we’ve seen in his junior career in Formula 3 and RenaultWorld Series that he’s capable of winning races and championships” said Horner.

The 24 year old Australian will fit well within the RBR team structure, and driving alongside Sebastian would provide Ricciardo, ample motivation to keep honing his driving skills and prove to everyone that he deserves the much coveted Red Bull seat.
