Peugeot’s new iOn Electric Car

September 13,2010

Peugeot is about to get into the electric-vehicle game with its new car, the iOn. If the car looks familiar, that’s because we have seen this car in another guise, as the Mitsubishi i-MIEV, a battery-powered subcompact.

Peugeot claims a range of up to 148 km/h, sufficient for most daily urban driving needs. Full charge needs six hours via household socket, while a quick charge restores 80% power in 30 minutes.

In the UK, Peugeot will offer an “all-inclusive” lease of £415 per month (about P28,000) for a four-year, 64,000-km contract. That includes vehicle warranty, covering the battery pack as well.
Institutional and fleet customers are expected to take up a bulk of the available cars, with environmentally-concerned individual customers also in the target market. The French company expects to increase production of the electric car to 50,000 units per year by 2015.
