San Marino MotoGP Qualifying

By William Herrera September 15,2013

The GP Aprerol di San Marino e Riviera Rimini is the 13th race in the 2013 MotoGP calendar. Held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli (in honor of the Super Sic, who passed away during the Malaysian MotoGP in 2011), the race showcased another brilliant ride by the 20 year old phenom, Marc Marquez, and with it made new entires in the sports record books.

Marquez not only got pole but obliterated the lap record, with a time of 1’32.915 seconds, a quarter of a second off the lap record set by Casey Stoner back in 2011. Marc was the first rider to clock in a time below the 1’33 seconds mark, taking his Repsol Honda to its 6th pole position of the 2013 season.

Starting on the first row with Marquez, is current world champion Jorge Lorenzo with a time of 1’33.428 and 3rd is hometown boy Valentino Rossi on his Yamaha. If there ever is a crowd who can will the Italian to victory on Sunday, it will be the Misono faithful, as Valentino grew up just a few kilometers from the circuit. Dani Pedrosa, starting on the second row, needs to get a bike to his liking. He was often seen on camera waving his hands exhasperation while in the garage. Pedrosa is 30 points behind Marquez, and needs a good result this weekend to keep up with Marquez in the standings. Pedrosa can’t afford to keep finishing behind the leaders.

Rossi is aiming to win his 2nd of the year since climbing on the top of the podium in Assen, Netherlands. Starting on 3rd is not the ideal position for Vale but he could just take the leaders coming down to the right hander of turn 1. Meanwhile, the Repsol Honda of Lorenzo has shown impressive times in the second sector, and this could well be the place where Jorge fights for the lead.

But all eyes will be on Marquez, who just continues to get quicker race after race, leaving his rivals scratching their heads and wondering on how to beat the youngster.

Will Marquez get his 6th win? Or will Lorenzo knock Dani off 2nd spot in the standings? Will Vale bring his Yamaha to the podium?

Catch all the MotoGP action on starting at 5PM (Manila time).
