Motorized mayhem leads Grand Theft Auto V to $1 billion in 3 days
Grand Theft Auto, the latest in the smash-hit video game series published by Take-Two Interactive Software’s Rockstar Games, has hit $1 billion sales in three days, faster than any Hollywood movie or other game. Last year’s ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ hit the billion-dollar mark in 15 days, while ‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ took 19 days.
Grand Theft Auto V depicts the exploits of three leading characters in the Los-Angeles stand-in city of Los Santos. Whatever what one might think of the violence, misogyny and general naughtiness exhibited by the game’s characters, GTA V has been a critical and commercial success.
Using all manners of wheeled, motorized, winged, and jet-powered vehicles, one navigates his way throughout Los Santos on various missions. Where the game excels is in being a fully explorable world. Other games might be termed roller-coaster rides on rails. GTA V is being compared more for a drive in a car, where one can theoretically go anywhere one wishes. Gamers can also tune in to virtual radio stations and even ‘pimp’ their rides. The game is cited as one that pushes the boundaries of interactive entertainment, and provides more than 100 hours of gameplay. The game reportedly cost more than $250 million to develop and market.
