Citroen Lacoste Concept: when a shirt just isn’t enough

September 24,2010

A huge crocodile on your shirt not tacky/prestigious enough for you? How about a Lascoste car then? Citroen has just put together a concept car together with the French clothing giant, for the inner sybarite in you.

The Citroen Lacoste may look like a luxury golfcart, but it is nearly 3.5 meters long, with an open design architecture. Front passengers simply slide into their seats, courtesy of cutouts in the body that replace conventional doors. The rear passengers, too, can simply jump in. The rear bench can slide into the trunk to make room for presumably a big bunch of tennis rackets.Even the windshield can be lowered to provide a completely open-to-the-elements driving experience. In place of a conventional roof is a T-shaped “backbone” that is able to deploy an inflatable soft-top roof, in bright yellow, no less.

The Lacoste part is present in the seat fabrics, which are made of a polo-shirt like cotton cloth, as well as the seatbelt anchorages with “neckline” shapes. The concept uses a pearl white paint with dark blue accents. The dash uses a video display with big pixels. Somewhere, an Atari 2600 is weeping with joy.

Power is provided by a three-cylinder gasoline engine, deemed sufficient for the car’s relatively light weight.
