Foton PH launches the Big Show, announces plans to assemble vehicles
This coming October 25 to 27, Foton Philippines will showcase its latest lineup of vehicles and construction equipment at the World Trade Center dubbed as the “Big Show.” Now on its third year, the Big Show has become an annual and exclusive exhibition of its complete product line of commercial and passenger vehicles as well as heavy equipment that is targeted to empower not only private enterprises but to cater to government and other institutional requirements as well.
With a total area of about 3,000 square meters, the indoor showcase will be on Hall A of the World Trade Center and Foton will also have a 4,000 square meter outdoor exhibit. With its various incentive programs like on-the-spot tradeshow discounts, special trade-in deals and other freebies, Foton Philippines will also have 8 major banks during the show to offer on-site easy financing and low interest installment deals. Other activities include vehicle test-drives and seminars that cover technical training, PMS (preventive maintenance service) tips, road safety, responsible driving and UV Express franchise application tips. The event will also be the venue for Foton to launch its newest View Traveler model van that features the 2.8ISF Cummins engine.
Visitors to the 2013 Big Show will be treated to a one-of-a-kind “Dancing Wheel Loader” show three times each day during the three-day event. The show is a synchronized dance maneuver of heavy equipment to mimic robotic dance movements that has never been seen before in the country. Highly skilled heavy equipment drivers from China will fly in to Manila to perform in the specially choreographed dance number using Foton’s wheel loaders and trucks.

Founded in 1996, Foton Motor went public in 1998. By 2002, it began production of its first heavy truck under the Auman brand. Foton is currently ranked 34th in the Chinese Top 500 Most Valuable Brands with an estimated brand value of RMB 34 billion. Foton Motor is China’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer and is poised to become one of the leading global commercial vehicle makers, after its much-publicized tie-up with German automaker Daimler AG, the world’s second largest truck manufacturer in the world. Aside from its partnership with Daimler, Foton also has a joint venture with Cummins Engine Co. Ltd., to produce engines that power its new Thunder pickup truck model. In China alone, Foton has a distribution and service network of over 2,700 dealers and 4,400 service centers and globally has more than 100 distributors and 400 service centers in over 100 countries.
With a total production capacity of up to 200,000 vehicles per year, it is capable of producing 400,000 gasoline direct injection turbocharged engines as well as 10,000 heavy machinery engines annually. With growing concerns about environmental compliance, these engines will be Euro-V compliant and some with upgrade potential for Euro-VI emission standard.
Locally, Foton Philippines is the most aggressive and successful Chinese automotive brand, not only enjoying private sector demand for its vehicles but has in recent years been attracting a growing number of government fleet accounts that includes police and ambulance vehicles. Foton is locally and exclusively distributed by United Asia Automotive Group Inc. (UAAGI) since 2006, and has grown to over 20 dealerships nationwide in just a span of 5 years. With its successful introduction of the Blizzard pickup a few years back, Foton showcased the debut of its new Cummins-powered Thunder pickup at the Manila International Auto Show and its very own Big Show last year. With a larger chassis, engine and cabin, it was well received by the local market. UAAGI is also planning to set up an assembly plant at Clarkfield, Pampanga to cater a growing demand for Foton vehicles in the country.
“We are proud to showcase once more to the Filipino people what we believe are the best commercial vehicle solutions available in the market today,” says Rommel Sytin, President of Foton Motor Philippines. He adds, “The Foton Big Show is now on its third year and it just keeps getting better as the public learns to appreciate the strength, features and practicality of the Foton brand.”
