Subaru teases WRX ahead of Los Angeles debut

After the introduction of the all-new Impreza sedan and hatchback, there was only one question in everybody’s mind: where’s the new WRX? The answer has been shown by Subaru, using an official teaser shot of the car’s front end. Plus, images have leaked online, purporting to show the entire car.

If the leaked shots are indeed accurate, the new WRX will bear little resemblance to the intriguing WRX concept previously shown at this year’s New York Auto Show. Instead, it will be heavily based, as usual, on the existing Impreza sedan. This is despite Subaru’s decision to use a separate WRX model designation instead of having the car be a variant of the Impreza.

The WRX seems set to retain the hood scoop, bulging front bumper, and quad-tailpipe rear of previous generations. The rest looks like standard Impreza sedan bodywork. Prediction is for a turbocharged version of the 2.0-liter boxer engine to be under the hood, with power to all four wheels, of course. Subaru does promise that this will be the fastest WRX ever.
