Cars we want to have: Toyota Camatte57s concept

June 13,2013

Did you ever wish you had a full-scale Automoblox or Lego car? Toyota seems to share your desire, as the company will display a fun-looking concept car that looks and can be put together like a toy. The car will be displayed, appropriately, at the International Tokyo Toy Show.

Called the Camatte57s, the car features detachable body panels—57 of them to allow for color and design customization. (Eat your heart out, Atoy Llave!) The car features a roadster-type body, with a length of 3000mm x 1440mm width. The car is driven by an electric motor.

Best of all, kids can drive it, with pedals and seats adjustable to kid size, while an adult seated in the right-rear seat (the best position for back-seat drivers), can assist with steering and braking.

Toyota says that the Camatte57s is “aimed at bringing parents and children closer together as they work in collaboration on building their ideal car. The vehicle aims to convey the joy and dreams of motor vehicles to current and future drivers, by providing an opportunity for parents and children to together experience the fun of driving, car customization and car enthusiasm.” The name “Camatte” is based on the Japanese word for care and is meant to signify “caring for others” and “caring for cars.” The “s” doesn’t mean it’s faster but instead stands for the Japanese word for “sawaru” which means “to touch.” Toyota apparently believes that people should feel more in touch with each other and with vehicles, something we wholeheartedly agree with.
