Like a Huracan: Lamborghini unveils Gallardo successor

By Jason K. Ang December 23,2013

Lamborghini is about to launch its successor to the relatively prolific Gallardo sports car, which sold 14,022 units, making it the Hollywood blockbuster of supercars. Calling the new car Huracán, Lambo promises a car that’s painless to drive on the road, yet packing outstanding driving dynamics.

This wouldn’t be a Lamborghini without a dramatic exterior. The aim was to have a single line connect the front of the cockpit with the car’s rear. The side windows are hexagonal. The sports car features all LED lighting, a first for the segment.

Interior is modern, with a 12.3-inch digital panel displaying virtual instruments and navigation information. Leather and Alcantara will be the trim options.

Power comes from a new 5.2-liter V10, generating 610 hp and 560Nm. The engine features both direct and indirect gasoline injection. 0-100kph is a blistering 3.2 seconds, 0-200 in 9.9 seconds, and top speed is over 325 kph. A carbon fiber and aluminum chassis keeps the weight down to 1422kg, allowing for 2.33 kg per horsepower ratio. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is standard, channeling power to all four wheels.

As always, the name Huracán comes from the world of bulls. It was the name of a fighting bull from Spain, known for “outstanding courage and strong sense of attack” in the face of a being skewered by a man with a sword.

If you’re on Lamborghini’s mailing list, expect to receive an invitation to view the  Huracán starting January 2014. The sports car will be officially launched at the Geneva Motorshow in March.
