Michael Schumacher in critical condition after skiing accident-reports

Seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher, considered the most successful driver in the sport’s history, was injured in a skiing accident in the French Alps Sunday. Reports say that he is in critical condition and that he suffered “severe head trauma.”

 

The German, 44, reportedly fell and hit his head on a rock, according to the director of the resort where he was skiing. He was taken to the University Hospital Center of Grenoble. He as in a coma and required immediate brain surgery. He was said to be alone and that he wore a helmet.

 

Schumacher won two World Drivers Championships at the Benetton Formula One team and five at Ferrari. He retired from the sport in 2007, then returned in 2010 to race for the Mercedes F1 team. He again retired after the 2012 season.
