Michael Schumacher faces his toughest battle to date
Michael Schumacher, arguably the greatest F1 driver of all time, suffered severe head trauma after hitting his head on a rock while skiing was rushed to the University Hospital Center of Grenoble, France for emergency care and surgery.
The doctors placed Schumacher in an induced coma and lowered his body temperature to allow the brain to recover and reduce swelling, the next 48 hours could prove critical as the brain continues to swell.
Michael’s status improved ever so slightly allowing the doctors the opportunity to undergo a 2nd surgery to remove intercranial pressure on his brain. Schumacher progress will now be assessed on a day-to-day basis.
The doctors were able to scan his brain and operate on a hematoma, but they still can’t pronounce that he is out of danger. Schumacher will remain in an induced coma for as long necessary to allow the monitoring of the lesions on his brain. The recovery for this kind of trauma is not quick by any means, and the hospital will give out updates once changes occur.
