Rizal Park roads closed for Shell Eco-marathon; motorists warned to avoid area

February 06,2014

From February 6 to February 9, the Southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard across Rizal Park will be closed to traffic for the staging of the Shell Eco-marathon Asia. The Department of Public Works and Highways issued the advisory Wednesday, and announced alternative routes for northbound and southbound vehicles during the four-day perios.

“From Roxas Boulevard, northbound vehicles are advised to turn right to T. M. Kalaw Avenue, then left to Ma. Orosa Avenue, left to P. Burgos Avenue and right to Bonifacio Drive towards their point of destination. On the other hand, southbound vehicles coming from the Port Area should turn left to P. Burgos, then right to Ma. Orosa, right again to T.M. Kalaw, and left to Roxas Boulevard to their destination,” said the DPWH.

According to the agency’s Public Information Division, “the normal flow of traffic in the Roxas Boulevard and Bonifacio Drive areas is expected to resume on Feb. 14.”

“It will take Shell Philippines, the event organizer, another five days to dismantle all railings and pack equipment used during the activity,” said the PID.

The road closure “has created traffic slowdown in the area since last Sunday,” the DPWH noted.
