President Aquino queues up to renew driver’s license

February 07,2014

President Aquino personally renewed his driver’s license on Thursday, two days before it expires upon his 54th birthday on Saturday.

Aquino reportedly “waited in line along with other license applicants” at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Tayuman, Manila, according to statement from Malacañang Palace.

According to Malacañang, this is  part of the administration’s policy against abusive government officials, or the “wang-wang” (vehicle siren) mentality.

“As a law-abiding citizen, he went to the Land Transportation Office, lined up, didn’t ask for special treatment, went through the process, and completed the process in the renewal of his license,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma told reporters.

The President spent 37 minutes to get his new driver’s license, including the time he spent accommodating several people who wanted their pictures taken with him, according to Palace Undersecretary Rey Marfil.

He was accompanied by Marfil and Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya.

Coloma said he still had no information on what the President planned to do on his birthday. But he said Saturdays were usually his “private time.”
