Traffic rerouting options for Skyway 3 construction released

February 17,2014

The Skyway O & M Corporation (Somco) on Monday has provided rerouting options for motorists who need to avoid the Skyway Stage 3 construction works. Construction on Skyway Stage 3 elevated highway will start Monday night, and will coincide with the construction of another project that will connect Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway Phase 2 to the seaside Entertainment City.

The 14.8-kilometer, six-lane Skyway Stage 3 will supposedly reduce travel time from Buendia to Balintawak from two hours to 20 minutes or less.

“Motorists who want to avoid the stretch of Osmeña Highway (in straight line) between Quirino Ave. and Buendia-end of Skyway-Slex may use the various alternate routes shown in broken lines,” Somco’s posted image over Twitter said.

The posted image showed nearby roads such as Edsa, Quirino Ave., Taft Ave., Roxas Blvd., Macapagal, and Ayala Ave., among others, as alternate routes.

Skyway Stage 3 construction is expected to cause heavy traffic in the area until its completion in 2016. The P26.7 billion project will complete the Skyway system from Alabang to Balintawak and will connect the South Luzon Expressway (Slex) and the North Luzon Expressway (Nlex). The new highway will connect Skyway Stage 1 at Buendia, and will run along Osmeña Highway, Quirino Ave. towards Plaza Dilao, crossing Pasig River, and will cut through at the back of SM Sta. Mesa towards G. Araneta Ave., crossing Aurora Blvd., E. Rodriguez and Quezon Ave. towards Sgt. E. Rivera then along A. Bonifacio towards Balintawak.
