Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (Hari) has just recently presented two new offerings that promise to bring thrills at both ends of the spectrum. Both are called “Grand” but while one is a spunky little car, the other is among the most spacious SUVs in the market today.
Voted as the 2014 Indian Car of the Year, Auto Car India’s Compact Car of the Year, CarBuyer (UK)’s Car of the Year and “Best City Car” of What Car?, UK’s biggest and most comprehensive car buyer’s guide, the diminutive Hyundai Grand i10 is one well-loved car.
As Hyundai’s first grand subcompact hatchback, the Grand i10 is a definite choice for in-city and out-of-town drives.
The car features the “chic icon,” Hyundai’s new design concept that is a refinement of the iconic elements of the mini city car. Bannered by the familiar hexagonal grille, the Grand i10 sports bigger and brighter headlamps, a wide windshield, fog lamps, 14-inch alloy wheels as well as sleek side mirrors that are electrically adjustable and foldable.
For its price (the 5-speed manual 1.0 E costs P518,000; the manual 1.0 S, P558,000; the 4-speed automatic 1.0 S, P588,000; the automatic 1.0 L, P658,000; and automatic 1.2 L, P688,000), the Grand i10 is already equipped with antilock braking system (ABS), front disc brakes, dual airbags and a high mount stop lamp fitted at the rear (making this tiny car more visible during sudden stops). Apart from a navigation system, rear wiper with washer, it also has fog lamps and rearview camera for added safety.
To see the Grand i10 up close, Hari has arranged a mall tour on the following locations and dates:
Robinsons Galleria, Feb. 15-24; SM Center Las Piñas, Feb. 15-19; SM City Bicutan, Feb. 15-19; SM City Marikina, Feb. 15-19; SM City San Lazaro, Feb. 15-19; SM City Sucat, Feb. 15-19; Theatre Mall, Feb. 15-16; SM Mall of Asia, Feb. 20-26; SM City North Edsa, Feb. 20-22; Trinoma, Feb. 21-23; Glorietta, Feb. 21-23; and Virra Mall, Feb. 21-23.
Fun den for the family
It’s everything you’ve come to expect from a large-sized SUV and so much more. Stepping inside the Grand Santa Fe is a world of difference when compared to the standard version.
Overall length is 4.915 meters compared to that standard’s 4.69 m. The wheelbase is now 2.8 m long or 10 centimeters more than the standard Santa Fe.
Apart from the increased dimensions, most notable improvements for this P2.498-million sport utility vehicle is the eight-way driver’s seat that is equipped with an Integrated Memory Seat function (automatically recalls seat and side mirror positions).
This six-seater SUV, features two large captain seats at the second row that could slide and be reclined. Third-row seats could be folded 50:50. To top it off, the Grand Santa Fe offers a panoramic sunroof that is now wider. Unlike conventional sunroofs, the center beam was eliminated and now uses motor-driven roller blinds that open up with ease for a smoother, more dramatic effect.
Powering the Grand Santa Fe is a 2.2-liter CRDi eVGT engine that generates 194.3 horsepower (at 3,800 revolutions per minute) and maximum torque of 436.4 Newton-meters (at 1,800-2,500 rpm). Mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission (H-Matic), this diesel powerhouse offers exceptional pulling power and performance.
