Another bus fell from the Skyway elevated highway on Sunday. This time it was a Shuttle bus owned by the Skyway operator itself. The shuttle bus was reportedly hit by a Toyota Fortuner SUV that was driving on the same lane as the bus.
Chief Superintendent Jose Erwin Villacorte, director of the Southern Police District, said in a text message that the driver of the shuttle bus Allan Nopal suffered injuries in the fall. The driver was brought to the Paranaque Doctors’ Hospital for treatment.
The accident happened at around 5:15 am at Barangay (village) San Valley in Paranaque City just after the driver of the bus had dropped off passengers. The shuttle bus that figured in the Sunday accident used to ferry employees to their assigned work areas. Villacorte said initial investigation showed that the bus was traveling the southbound lane of the Skyway when a Toyota Fortuner bumped into it. Because of the impact, the driver lost control of the vehicle, thus falling off from the elevated highway. It landed on the service road, fortunately hitting no passengers or vehicles below the Skyway. The driver of the Toyota Fortuner was unhurt after the accident, police said.
Last Dec. 16, 2013, a Don Mariano Transit bus plying the southbound lane of Skyway fell and crashed into a van below along the South Luzon Expressway in Paranaque City, killing 20 persons.
