After its successful campaign in Le Mans Prototype racing in 2013, KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) announces its commitment to the full season of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) this year after submitting its entry to the Automobile Club de l’Ouest.
To reinforce its 2014 plans for the renowned sports car endurance championship, KCMG is also pleased to reveal its collaboration with French constructor ORECA. The French manufacturer will help facilitate the team’s technical efforts in WEC’s forthcoming season.
The Hong Kong-based team’s intention to participate in the entire season of WEC will mark a new milestone, as KCMG will be the first Chinese outfit to contest all rounds of the World Championship.
KCMG made motorsport history last year by becoming the first Chinese team to compete in the 6 Hours of Silverstone and notably, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team yielded impressive results in the French endurance classic, where its #47 LMP2 climbed the leaderboard and headed the class for several laps.
KCMG’s anticipated presence in WEC is part of the team’s pursuit to place itself at the forefront of the international motorsport scene. The World Championship’s 2014 season highlights an 8-event calendar, with races to be held in the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, USA, Japan, China, Bahrain and Brazil.
Paul Ip, KCMG Managing Director: “As an Asian-based team, it has always been our objective to expand our motorsport initiatives to a global scale and WEC has given us the opportunity to do so. The progress that we’ve shown in the past year since our debut in Silverstone has encouraged us to continue our campaign in Le Mans Prototype racing. Our plan this year is to extend our presence worldwide by committing to the season of the World Championship. More so, we are happy to expand our initiatives in this motorsport discipline with our new partner ORECA. Mr. Hugues de Chaunac and his team have been very supportive and we are looking forward to a strong season ahead with them.”
Hugues de Chaunac, ORECA President: “We are very pleased to welcome KCMG within ORECA’s family. Asia, just like America, is a very important connection to us and I am very proud to see that such a team as KCMG has chosen the ORECA 03 LMP2. Paul IP and his squad are very ambitious. Our first meetings have been very constructive and positive. Today we are hoping to establish a relationship over time in order to meet high aims. KCMG can make its mark on Chinese motorsports history in endurance racing. The team intends to conquer endurance racing and we are determined to support that process.”
