Subaru to go off-road and Swifter than ever at Manila International Auto Show

By Alvin Uy March 12,2014

Motor Image Pilipinas, the country’s distributor of Subaru vehicles, is all set to go for this year’s Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). Renowned Guinness World Record holder and precision driver Russ Swift will fly in all the way from the United Kingdom and perform daily from April 3 to 6 at the World Trade Center. Swift is a regular celebrity performer for the annual auto show and will once again amaze MIAS visitors with his trademark J-turns, donuts and lightning-quick parallel parking maneuvers.

At last year’s Mias, Swift used the all-new Subaru BRZ sports car. With rear-wheel drive, near-perfect weight distribution and a low center of gravity, the BRZ was a precision sports car that wowed the crowd during the four-day event. Performing three times daily, Russ Swift never failed to engage and entertain the audiences as he spun his trusty Subaru cars into parking spaces with a few inches to spare, each time in just two seconds.

Swift started performing at MIAS in 2007 and has been a regular celebrity performer ever since. He is also a crowd favorite in other international auto shows. In his career, Swift has earned three Guinness World Records: parallel parking in the tightest space, J-turn in the tightest space and the most donuts in a minute. Aside from auto shows, he also does stunt work and consultations for the movies, including the remake of the Hollywood hit, “The Italian Job.” For the 2014 Manila International Auto Show, Swift will be doing his trademark maneuvers once again at the rear driveway of the World Trade Center.

Aside from the annual offering of the Subaru-Russ Swift Show, Motor Image Pilipinas will be featuring its Subaru All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Experience for the first time on the front parking grounds of the World Trade Center at MIAS. The Subaru All-Wheel Drive Experience event will have a specially-designed track for customers to experience one of Subaru’s acclaimed core technologies, the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system and the boxer engine.

This off-road track will simulate various real-world driving conditions. The course is designed to demonstrate how Subaru cars behave, with their superior handling capability and responsiveness to  various obstacles. Included in the driving course are the X-mode ramp, slip roller, cross roller and shell pits. These simulate situations where traction is lost from one or more wheels. With Subaru’s dynamic combination of its all-wheel drive technology and Subaru boxer engine that allows a low center of gravity, the car provides a more stable and quicker response. They can thus negotiate tough roads, handle slippery surfaces or even run up steep hills.
