The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has said that it should start repairing the 39-year old Magallanes interchange in Makati City. DPWH has warned that the cracks in the structure expose motorists to “extreme danger.”
“We have to do something soon because the structure is no longer reliable. We have been noticing concrete disintegration,” Reynaldo Tagudando, director of the DPWH-National Capital Region office, told reporters yesterday.
“We appealed to MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino not to delay the repair since there won’t be total closure and we plan to do it between 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. when there are fewer vehicles,” he said.
Repair and rehabilitation of the Magallanes Interchange has been projected to be completed within eight months. Tolentino, however, said that repairs should start after Holy Week to prevent heavy traffic in the area.
The DPWH has previously repaired cracks in the interchange in 2010.
