A commuter bus turned over when one of its rear wheels popped off on the South Luzon Expressway. The accident injured at least 20 persons, including a woman whose arm was reportedly torn off. The Southern Carrier bus was heading from Lipa, Batnagas when the accident occurred. The injured were taken to hospitals in the BiƱan, Laguna area.
The bus accident is but the latest in a string of almost weekly incidents involving the vehicles. Two well-publicized cases were the crash of a Don Mariano bus from the Skyway elevated highway, and the fall into a ravine of a Florida bus in Mountain Province. The government agency Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has been conducting safety inspections and canceling franchises of erring bus companies, but the carnage continues.
