After initially snobbing SUVs as too utilitarian, China is rapidly becoming an SUV market. Porsche is capitalizing on that by introducing multiple versions of its new Macan compact SUV. After launches of the Macan S, Macan S Diesel and Macan Turbo models, the introduction of a base Macan represents a logical extension of the Porsche model line-up, positioning an efficient entry-level model on the Chinese market. The Macan is powered by an in-line four-cylinder petrol engine with turbocharging, two liters displacement and 237 hp. Standard Macan features are nearly identical to those that are standard in the S models.
Martin Limpert, Managing Director of Porsche Asia Pacific, said that the Macan will be launched in the Philippines by May, with deliveries to start the following month.
